Ripped Off
DO NOT TAKE THIS TOUR ON THE FIRST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH!!! We took this tour today and Anna is a great guide but the crowds really spoiled the experience and we feel quite ripped off. The first Sunday of the month Pompeii is free to the public but there was no warning on Viator about that when we booked. We only got an email a few days before advising us that the tour needed to start earlier than planned because it was the “free” day. We waited on line to enter for at least half an hour. Plus, the prices for the tour, which includes admission, was the same as days when it costs 25 euros to enter…so in essence we were charged the entry fee even though it was free to enter (50 euros in total). The tour guide, Anna, Was very good in spite of the rest.

It is much more than we expected
We were amazed. Yes, we have all heard the stories and seen the images, but being there and realizing how large, advanced, and cultured this city was more than 2000 years ago leaves you speechless. Comfortable walking shoes and sun protection are necessary. If you get a guide named Maria Laura, you are lucky. Her command of the subject and passion for what she does are obvious and make the experience better.
Highly recommend a guided tour.
We had the 3-hour tour. The guide was great. The tour was informative. Definitely got more out of the history of Pompeii with a guide.
