Full description

Though people visit from across Japan and around the world, this area is still very much a locals’ spot- with many shops, restaurants, and gaming parlors catering to the everyday laborers who live nearby. This retro district is full of inexpensive local dining and entertainment options. Take a stroll with our local expert and we will show you the hidden gems and explain the colorful past history of Shinsekai through the years. You will get to try different local dishes at 4 different shops. Each item has a long history in the Osaka area. Shinsekai evokes the SHOWA era in Japan which was full of optimism, growth, and a communal sense of building a better future together. There is a lot of romance and nostalgia about this period in modern Japanese history. This vintage neighborhood brings back all the charm of the 1910s through the 1960s a boom period for Osaka City.

o this was a fun, informative, interesting and tasty tour! we loved our time with our engaging guide Yoshiko. The small tour was great. the food venues interesting and the company great. we did this as a private tour and I think we got more from.t that experience. Happy to recommend.

Great Food, Mixed Experience The food on this tour was exceptional — outstanding quantity, quality, and variety. We enjoyed generous portions of delicious local specialties. However, finding the meeting spot was very difficult. The instructions pointed to a mural that had been taken down with no clear alternative. Our guide Mae was friendly and knowledgeable, but she seemed awkward and not very engaging. She didn’t encourage group introductions, so we felt disconnected and noticed other guides were much more lively. She’s nice and knows her material, but may be better suited to a different role. Hoping the company can provide support without this affecting her job. The food made it worthwhile, but better logistics and energy would improve it.
