Eric was nice, but not...

Eric was nice, but not terribly knowledgeable about the area. From the outset it seemed he had somewhere else to be. He would run yellow lights on the bike and leave us to fend for ourselves. Tour was supposed to be 2 hrs. Eneded up at 1:40. Bikes were nice and in good shape.

E bike tour failure: don’t get TOM as guide

Our experience was extremely disappointing. We arrived 40 minutes ahead of departure time to ensure that we were all set and fitted with bikes, helmets, and the safety talk prior to our 10:30am departure time. Our tour guide, Tom, arrived at approximately 10:25 and there was nothing set-up for our party of 6. Tom handled the situation very poorly. He was surly, blamed the lack of prep on Joyride, which may have been the case, but he took no accountability and was belligerent rather than apologetic. He strongly discouraged us from the e-bike tour because not everyone in our group had done it before. He spent the next 45 to 50 minutes gathering the equipment, with helmets and earphones missing pieces, requiring him to make several trips to other side of building where the equipment was stored to get additional parts. Rather than being encouraging to those who had never ridden e-bikes before, he didn’t show them what to do with a quick demo and test drive in the parking lot. The experienced riders in our group assisted by showing those new to e-bikes what to do and had them practice while Tom was going back and forth getting the equipment. By the time we were finally ready to take off everyone was on edge and Tom took off quickly making one of the inexperienced riders nervous and she fell off the bike. Rather than checking on her to see if she was ok (she was bleeding) he was upset that her chain fell off and he’d have to get another bike. We decided that none of us were comfortable with this man leading us on a bike tour so opted for the golf cart tour. The two people in the back of the cart couldn’t hear Tom with the muffled microphone and the loud sound of the motor which seemed to irritate Tom because he didn’t think we were listening to his spiel. Tom didn’t try to build any rapport with our group and became upset with drivers on the road, yelling at them along the way. In fact, he almost got in a fight with a driver at a stop in front of the Rainbow Room. He also took a very strange personal call during the tour which we heard over the speaker about surveillance video, the FBI, and not to call him at this number again. Although JoyRide did credit us 50% of the fee for the problems at the front end of the tour, we feel a 100% credit is in order. It was the start of our trip in Nashville and really put a damper on our day! It seems the tour guides are contracted by Joyride and Joyride needs to be on top of who they are hiring. We discovered a review of Tom the Tour guide from July where the customers seemed to have a very similar experience we had with Tom. Tom’s behavior seems to be a pattern rather than an off day.

BIG LET DOWN!

July 2024 EXCITEMENT TOTALLY DEFLATED!!!!! Tom, our tour guide started our tour with discouraging us against riding the electric bikes despite have bike riding experience. #1 He was very impatient, temperamental, rude, and edgy with giving basic instructions on how to operate the bike. #2 When we asked him for clarification, he reluctantly assisted us. AGAIN, tried to discourage us. #3 On several occasions, he would ride far ahead of us and at one point he was out of site for several minutes during rush hour on a major streets. #4 Tom used profanity and also pointed out his expectations of receiving a tip. He stated,"If you don't tip, it's like you just received a free bike tour." He gave an example of Europeans and Canadians that he's experienced regarding not tipping him. #5 It was a very uncomfortable experience, at one point. Someone in our group scraped their leg. It was obviously bleeding and Tom never acknowledged the issue nor did he have a first aid kit or band aid in the bag on the back of his bike which clearly had storage. We gave a 20% tip based on the pressure . The tour is a great concept, however, Tom should take an anger management class.
