Full description

Taste the delights of the lovely town of Fujinomiya, just at the base of the most famous mountain in Japan, Mount Fuji. With deep clear mountain spring water Fujinomiya is a great place for delicious food, sake, soba noodles and green tea. Get off the beaten track of the Tokyo-Kyoto corridor and discover true local furusato (hometown) spirit. Fujinomiya is an easy day trip from Tokyo (or an overnight visit that will give you more time to explore). Hop on the super fast Shinkansen (bullet train) and discover this hidden gem. The brand new Mt Fuji World Heritage Cultural Center is your starting point to explore this special place. Your tour features 6 specialty food stops including a hands-on sweets making the experience and a traditional set lunch. Fujinomiya has long been a well-known Japanese travel destination due to its proximity to the famous assent routes of Mt. Fuji. Many mountain climbers begin their adventure at the famous shrine in the center of town.  During the tour, you will enjoy snacks at the yummy Omiya Yokocho (local food and drinking alley). You can try a healthy soul food called Oden, prepared in a regional style. You will have a wonderful  lunch at a local restaurant that has been making soba and tempura specialties for over 80 years. Next, you will discover the heart of this town at the Fujisan Sengen Shrine. Thereafter, you will learn how to make Japanese traditional Wagashi (sweets) and eat your beautiful creations at a local tea shop. You will have a chance to stroll around town and get a feeling for the real hospitality of Japan. You will return home with flavorful memories of something few foreign tourists have a chance to experience.

Great Food, Mixed Experience The food on this tour was exceptional — outstanding quantity, quality, and variety. We enjoyed generous portions of delicious local specialties. However, finding the meeting spot was very difficult. The instructions pointed to a mural that had been taken down with no clear alternative. Our guide Mae was friendly and knowledgeable, but she seemed awkward and not very engaging. She didn’t encourage group introductions, so we felt disconnected and noticed other guides were much more lively. She’s nice and knows her material, but may be better suited to a different role. Hoping the company can provide support without this affecting her job. The food made it worthwhile, but better logistics and energy would improve it.

Very disappointing, far from town and no real food tasting.
