Lovely Evening on the Ping River

What a wonderful way to spend an evening in Chiang Mai! The dinner cruise was peaceful, relaxing, and so beautifully done. As we floated along the Ping River, the views were stunning — lantern-lit houses, quiet temples, and the gentle breeze made it all feel so special. The food was tasty and full of flavour, with a nice mix of Thai dishes that we really enjoyed. The staff were so warm and welcoming, always checking in with a smile to make sure we were comfortable and happy

Extra charges, bait and switch tactic

I booked this dinner cruise for myself and my fiance. When we ushered on board, I asked about the dinner. There was something said about a "set menu," and we were handed menus. There was nothing noted on my booking reservation about this set menu. I tried to ask about the set menu, but I was asked what I would like to order from the menu. Before sailing, we were brought enough food to feed 5-6 people which filled up the whole table. I was confused about this, and when I inquired, I was met with only smiles. Furthermore, during the remainder of dinner and the cruise, I watched the one waiter on board attend to all of the other tables several times, and clearing their dishes, and bringing them all ice cream for dessert. A full half hour later, after noting everyone else had finished their dessert and tables cleaned, I called the waiter over to ask him to clear our dishes. When we returned to the dock, they tried to charge us extra for the dinner we had ordered from the menu. I explained that this was pushed on us, and not made clear about the "Set Menu," that I had no choice in. This seems like a typical bait and switch scam. I did pay for our mocktail drinks as my booking did say, "food only," although no included drink items such as soda or coffee were offered.

The Chang Mai Ping River cruise not recommended

Be aware. This tour provides a SET menu. You cannot choose anything to eat. An issue if you have allergies to peanuts etc. The spring rolls had little to no filling. And the egg pancake and soup was not appetizing. We never got to the entree. No one explained what was being served. Also, you sit on the boat for an hour and a half and the boat ride is 1 hour, not 2. They hurried to get us there by 6:45pm so the boat would not leave without us, but it was scheduled to leave at 8 pm. We decided to end this tour before the boat departed. If you are in Bangkok I highly recommend the boat cruise. The buildings and temples etc. are lit beautifully and the food selection is very good., service excellent. Hopefully the tour operator in Chang Mai will make adjustments for their boat tour. And we were charged $138.00 for a bad experience.

Magical cruise!

Wonderful experience! Cocktails were terrific, and the place (Riverside Restaurant) seems to be famous for them. The cruising view of all the riverside businesses with their lights was magical. Ordering drinks after arriving on the boat put too much pressure on the staff and delayed the launch too long, in my opinion. 'Would be a good idea to pre-order on an app or just serve wine & beer on the boat and let people go to Riverside after the cruise for drinks. The pre-set menu / food was a bit average, but it's the best way to get out onto the water relatively quickly. We got way too close to some kayakers, but they also should have kept an eye out for boats. All in all, I recommend the dinner cruise and would go again.
