Itinerary
Welcome on board! Embark on a once-in-a-lifetime day trip to Montserrat from Barcelona and explore Catalonia's most famous mountain range. Take in the panoramic views of the mountain scenery as you ride our air-conditioned bus and discover the history of its medieval monastery by the hand of our passionate guides. Then, enjoy free time to explore on your own. You'll continue towards a beautiful boutique winery, and you are in for a treat! The cellar also happens to be a 10th century castle owned by the same family for 36 generations with magnificent views of the mountain you just visited. Discover their revival of ancient local grape varieties, which provide a unique glimpse into the region’s rich heritage. Savour traditional flavors with a light tapas brunch or enjoy a multi-course traditional lunch at the winery (depending on the option selected). After that, learn about the wine-making process, and enjoy a wine-tasting session before traveling back to Barcelona.
Upon arrival, your guided tour consists of an extended visit throughout the Basilica and Monastery, with free time to explore the site on your own afterwards. There are many activities to choose from – you may want to see the Black Madonna, visit the Museum, make your way to the Holy Cave, ride a funicular to the top of the mountain, or shop at the farmer’s market. At the end of the visit you'll have the chance to attend a performance by l’Escolania de Montserrat, the oldest Boys’ Choir in Europe.
Pass by: Scenic drive through the mountains.
After Montserrat, head to the estate winery of Oller del Mas. Located in a castle dating back to the 10th century, the winery is home to 1,500 acres of land and a public golf course. Make your way into the restaurant, where you will be served a multi-course meal with wine. Following your meal, take a stroll through the vineyards and visit the cellar for a guided tour of the estate's wines. Learn about the production process and other winemaking secrets. Before heading back to Barcelona, enjoy a wine tasting session with three ecological wines. You will be returned at the end of the day to your original departure point. * Please note that l'Escolania does not sing on Saturdays, school holidays, and several dates throughout the year.

- Tours start at 8:30 a.m. Please arrive 20 minutes before the start time because check-in is required at our office before proceeding to the buses area.
- Groups are limited to 20 people per guide, though in rare cases may increase to 22. Transportation is shared with other groups.
- The tour is conducted in English.
- Comfortable clothes and walking shoes are recommended. Montserrat and the winery may have more extreme temperatures than Barcelona—check the forecast and dress accordingly. Bring water, especially in summer.
- The tour is not wheelchair accessible, but service animals are allowed. For reduced mobility, contact us before booking to discuss arrangements.
- Infants (3 years or younger) join free of charge but are not provided with car seats or meals.
- Dietary restrictions or allergies are accommodated without advance notice.
- We often work with boutique, family-owned wineries. Due to logistics, the winery may vary from Oller del Mas.

I had the most magical experience in Montserrat, thanks to Vince from castlewine experience. He was so thoughtful, and kept adding more incredible history lessons about the monastery, the Spanish and Catalan culture, the language and even drawing on his experience in hospitality and as a sommelier to enhance the experience. The winery lunch itself was absolutely delicious with fresh produce, generous portions and courses and a taste of the incredible biodynamic wine and olive oil from the 1000 (!!!!!) plus year old winery. I would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone who wants to learn, have fun and do all of this while having a laugh. I wasn’t expecting a comedy show, this was just a wonderful added bonus. Thank you so much Vince and team - unforgettable day!
MUST book experience for culture & wine buffs!
This has been one of the most enjoyable tours I’ve been on - and I’ve been on many Viator tours globally! VINCE was an absolute superstar, combining his deep knowledge of history, food, wine, culture and religion to help teach us about the magic of Montserrat and the winery. Vince made the effort to remember where everyone was from, checking in with each of us throughout the day - something I really appreciated as a solo traveller. The winery lunch was absolute delicious and we got to taste many of their biodynamic varietals, learning about the process along the way. Overall a beautiful experience, excellent value for money and got to meet some wonderful people. 12/10 would recommend this tour!

We had an excellent experience with the Castlexperience Montserrat tour with Alberto! The tour and Alberto's knowledge was extensive and covered so much nature, history and wine knowledge. Highly recommend this wonderful tour for a nice break from the city and an educational experience with the heart of Catalan culture
