Itinerary
Montserrat is a mountain top monastery situated on top of an unusual rock mountain. It is the highest point of the Catalan lowlands. Montserrat monastery hosts “la Moreneta”, also called Black Madonna. The legend says that the benedictine monks found the statue, and they could not move the statue to build their monastery, so they decided to construct it around the statue. Montserrat was designated as a National Park in 1987. Nowadays, it is a site of pilgrimage for people around the world. Once in Montserrat, enjoy a 45-minute small group guided tour, and then you will have 2 hours to explore on your own. You can visit the Museum, taste the monastery’s homemade liquor, go for an easy walk to Saint Miguel's cross for an incredible viewpoint, go up the Sant Joan Funicular, take wonderful pictures, buy local products from the farmer's market, and more.
The origin of the monastery is uncertain, but it is believed that the Virgin of Monsterrat (La Moreneta) was found around 880. (8.30 am and 1.30 pm tours include tickets to La Moreneta). According to the legends, the monks built the monastery around the statue. The monastery still functions to this day with over 70 monks. The basilica of Montserrat began its construction in the 16th century, and now houses an art museum. It is also the place where la Escolania, one of the oldest Boys’ Choirs in Europe, performs during religious ceremonies (you can listen to them on the 9.30 am tour).
Once we finish our Montserrat visit, our transport will take you to a 12th century traditional farmhouse on a family-owned winery in the Bages region. Here, you will delight in a Traditional Catalan tapas lunch

Amazing day and tour guide!
This was an absolute fabulous day! Montserrat with the winery was perfection. Great day, small group and an amazing tour guide. Our guide, Xavi, was knowledgeable, funny and truly made the tour. My mother-in-law was with us who had a walker and Xavi was so kind to ensure she was always taken care of. Montserrat was beautiful and the winery and lunch was great. I even shipped wine home! I would do this exact same tour again.
Good and Bad Tour
We were moved to a different tour company and it wasn’t quite exactly what we had booked. They put us on a bus of about 50 people to drive between the various places. They did have several guides so each one had about 15 people. This really felt more like a transportation tour vice a small group tour. The guides only spoke for about 15-20 minutes at Montserrat and they left you on your own for 3 hours. You were sup[posed to do the cog train which we did not do and liquor tastings which we never received tickets for. Just for awareness, most everything was extra, the funicular which took you to the top was 17.50e, the museum was 12e and the tasting was 3.50e. The food at the winery was very good and tasty but the tour never took you through the winery, only the vineyard. If you have been through a winery before, I would suggest skipping this tour and just do the Montserrat only portion. Monserrat itself was amazing.
Excellent tour, our tour...

Thoroughly enjoyable
Miro was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. We learnt so much! Highly recommend this trip.
Excellent tour with Miro
Miro was an excellent guide and provided an educational experience at Montserrat. We had just enough time to explore the grounds. He navigated our entire wine tasting experience along with a tour of the grounds. This was an excellent all day experience. Thank you Miro! You are the best!
