The only rules: wear comfortable shoes and come hungry!
Your Montmartre food tour begins at a local bakery housed in a historic building. Here it's all about the classics—croissants and crusty bread still warm from the oven. As you take your first bite, your local expert will share how French people really do breakfast, from timing to technique (and, yes, plenty of butter). On some days, we visit another local vendor and here you'll sink your teeth into a chou pastry, one of the stars of modern French patisserie.
Next, step inside a legendary Montmartre bistro dating back to 1921. A beloved hangout for artists and locals alike, this spot embodies the neighborhood’s bohemian soul. You’ll sip a chilled glass of white wine and taste their award-winning oeuf mayonnaise—a deceptively simple dish of eggs and mayo made with care, balance, and perfectly cooked eggs.
After a short stroll through Montmartre’s charming backstreets, we’ll visit a local fromagerie where savvy Parisians buy their cheese. Inside this no-frills gem, you’ll sample delicious French cheeses, chosen based on season and style—from pungent and creamy to firm and nutty. You'll learn how to shop like a local, and what makes these cheeses so special.
Next, it's time to try an absolute staple of French cuisine: cheese. France's long history of cheesemaking dates back to the Romans and includes 400 different varieties unique in taste, texture, and color. We'll pop in a specialty cheese shop to try a board of seasonal cheeses and firm favorites. You'll get a sense of what savvy Parisians pay most attention to when doing their cheese shopping: think provenance, seasonality, and small producers.
Your main course is up next at a traditional Parisian bistro where timeless comfort food takes center stage. You’ll dig into escargot (snails) and a rich sausage served with aligot, a creamy mashed potato dish blended with melted cheese and garlic. A robust glass of red wine ties it all together.
For the grand finale, we’ll stop by a small chocolatier creating some of Montmartre’s most creative macarons, each infused with subtle Breton-inspired flavors. It’s the perfect sweet note to end your culinary exploration of Montmartre.
Montmartre is a village complete with its own vineyard, church, and amazing history. As you walk its winding streets with your guide between our foodie stops, you'll also hear tales of its vibrant past. Along the way, you’ll enjoy some of the best views of Paris and an unforgettable photo op at the Sacré-Cœur.
