Traveler reviews
The gentleman was very knowledgeable
It was a good experience it was a little difficult to find him when we arrived but we did stand by the statue and did find him
Questionable pieces, communication challenges for the guide
I think there’s two items that cause this to be a poor review: foremost I expected more for the cost. Not quantity, time was defined. Quality was lacking. The guide showed us pieces where I’d question why we were reviewing the story of one piece when a more extravagant one nearby with more onlookers were there. Art is subjective for sure. Popularity is something. Happy we saw a Monet piece and Van Gogh piece. Surprised no mention of the Water Lilies piece. Some very large pieces from Japan had many people crowded around. We looked at samurai armor. I can appreciate the armor, but it was one of a number of instances where me and my children were in awe of something in another room nearby and we were looking from afar. Second was the guide. I would have loved having him if it was myself and a partner. I was there with 3 kids 11-17, and an 84 yr old mom (details I submitted). The guide spoke softly and with a thicker accent that I could understand… but the rest of my family could not. The couple (as it turns out, they were Eastern European - the guide was Spaniard and spoke with a thicker accent and it was clearly a challenge for them too) that was in our group actually commented on this to him right away (“we don’t understand you, can you at least speak louder?”). I think for the cost, knowing the ages I provided, and the note I made about an older person (who is strong and walked the whole tour with the group), I would expect attention to that detail in scheduling
Love me some Raphael.
Went for the RAPHAEL exhibit. It was easy to find, we'll laid out, and full of wonderful painting and drawings. A bit crowded; but that's vto be expected with this kind of show.
Navigating the Met
The Met opens at 10 am. Our guide asked us to meet him inside. You need to get there early so you can be close to the front of the line to get in. I would suggest meeting the guide outside
Beware!!!
If I could give no stars I would. They don't tell you that there are massive lines outside the Met so when you go to meet up, you essentially won't make it on time and I think they count on that. They denied my refund for an experience that we never got to participate in and they took a couple of days to respond. Every attempt to contact the company at the time of the tour was unsuccessful. Scam.
