Itinerary
Authentic Japanese Gardens are set in the beautiful seaside town of Tramore, County Waterford, Ireland over looking the magnificent Beach and Bay. These Gardens tell the fascinating story of Irish Writer Patrick Lafcadio Hearn (Koizumi Yakumo), who grew up in Ireland, and whose life journey embraced several parts of the world. The gardens pay homage to the fame he attained in Japan through his literary descriptions of the people, customs and culture of that country. Follow Lafcadio Hearn’s incredible life journey through self guided story boards and discover the symbolism of the rocks and plants, through 11 unique garden areas. Which include a Victorian Garden, American and Greek Garden, and on to the Japanese Gardens which are filled with Japanese plants and Japanese architectural features. Children are introduced to these magical gardens through a special children’s discovery trail, secret pathways, and woodlands. Children can be paid for on entry.

Traveler reviews
Unexpected beauty.
Very much exceeded our expectations. A lovely place that we would like to revisit in the summer. I wanted to give a 5 out of 5, but cannot, as we did not appreciate part of the garden being given over to Halloween decorations. Sadly, it detracted from a perfect visit, not to mention ruining the visit for my young son, who doesn’t like that kind of thing. Please rethink that for next year. Other than that, I can’t recommend the gardens highly enough.
A gem of a garden! Visit soon.
This is a gem of a garden in Tramore with such interesting backstory. It is unique. Beautiful planting and design details. Well worth a visit by gardeners and historians!
Hidden gem in tramore!
We were in the area and wanted to do something with the kids before we headed down to the seafront and came across a sign for the Japanese gardens , it was immaculately kept and the kids loved it! The person working in the cabin couldn't have been nicer and we were made to feel extremely welcomed
