Itinerary
On our way to Soweto we pass by the National Football Stadium, which hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the World Cup 2010. We enter the Diepkloof area, where we will take a walk past vendors selling just about anything.
We set off to the heart of Soweto, driving past Baragwanath Hospital, an enormous taxi rank and the historic suburb of Diepkloof.
Our first stop in Soweto is at Motsoaledi informal settlement. Walk through the sand streets with your guide past local dwellings and a typical informal settlement day care that MoAfrika Tours and all travelers sponsor by visiting through us. Greet and meet the people in the settlement and learn more about their way of life.
Pass by: We continue on through Orlando West to the hub of Soweto. We stop outside Regina Mundi Church and Freedom Square for a quick overview.
Pass by: Walter Sisulu Square (Freedom Square), formally known as the Walter Sisulu Square of Dedication, is located in the heart of Kliptown in Soweto, South Africa.
The Hector Pieterson Museum is a large museum located in Orlando West, Soweto, South Africa, two blocks away from where Hector Pieterson was shot and killed 16 June 1976.
We make our way down the vibrant Vilakazi Street, past iconic monuments and the homes of Nelson and Winnie Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
Time permitting, you have the option of stopping at Nelson Mandela Museum for a visit (own cost)
Pass by: The morning ends at the massive Soweto Towers. This tour excludes lunch so grab yourself something to eat and drink (own cost) from a café, stroll around the craft market and watch people or join in bungee jumping off the towers (own cost and time permitting)

Traveler reviews
Short but jam packed!
A short tour but jam packed with information and sites. Clement was extremely knowledgeable being born and bred in Soweto. It was great of him to share the challenges with housing. Moussa took us through the informal settlement and it was eye opening.
Khutso’s incredible Soweto tour
Khutso was an amazing guide. He is so knowledgeable and willing to answer every question we had. The tour was eye opening. A special part of the tour was being taken by Wendy around her street in the informal settlement part of Soweto. We enjoyed a delicious lunch with Khutso and everyone he introduced us to was very friendly. The tour felt very respectful and designed to help people understand the issues still relevant for Black Africans. Thank you Khutso
Five stars for Carson!
Carson was an absolutely fantastic guide, with much knowledge, informative and passionate about the culture and history of Soweto. Highly recommended.
Worth It
This was one of the best tours I’ve been on in a long time. I was very happy with the entire experience and I would highly recommend it. I was able to see and learn so much about Soweto and South Africa.
An enriching and eye-opening tour to Soweto
Felt extremely safe during the afternoon tour with Tshepo. His explanations were detailed and I learnt a lot about Soweto during the time spent with him. Would definitely recommend this experience!
