Itinerary
Pass by: Your tour starts in Auckland - New Zealand’s largest city. As we drive out of the city, your guide will not only set the scene for your adventure but also point out some of the city’s top highlights.
Pass by: Exiting Auckland we travel south through the stunning Waikato countryside, the most extensive farming area in the world, encountering beautiful scenery, mighty rivers, great photo opportunities, impressive mountains and several farm animals along the way.
Arriving at ‘Hobbiton’ you will board one of the big green Hobbiton buses for a 2.5 hour fully-guided tour of this amazing 12-acre movie set with a professional Hobbiton guide to ensure you get the most out of your visit. During your tour step into the lush pastures of the Shire, visit 44 hobbit holes, see amazing gardens, hear the secrets and stories about the making of the movies, and enjoy a cold complimentary beverage at the famous Hobbiton pub ‘The Green Dragon Inn’.
Sadly we must start to head north again but your day is not over with a fully guided return trip to Auckland including surprise stops. Depending on weather and timing our guides love doing other surprise stops. Maybe a scenic stop near a lake or the chance to try New Zealand ice creams, we love introducing you to local wildlife and animals. You will have to jump on the tour to see where you go!

- Meeting at Hobbiton or nearby is strictly prohibited. All guests must travel as part of our Cheeky Kiwi Travel group tour
- If you are visiting off a cruise ship, please be aware we cannot guarantee to be back in time for a 6:30 - 8:30pm cruise departure
- The legal drinking age is 18, and ID may be required
- Children aged 7 years and below are required to travel in a child safety car seat. You can provide your own or one can be provided for $20 NZD (with 24 hours notice).
- Minimum numbers apply. There is a possibility of cancellation after confirmation if there are not enough passengers to meet requirements. In the event of this occurring, you will be offered an alternative or full refund.

We had the best experience with our driver Jeoff from Cheeky Kiwi! Made the ride to Hobbiton very smooth and comfortable, giving us lots of history on New Zealand. Hobbiton was absolutely beautiful and our tour guide there, James, was so much fun to be around. Definitely would recommend.
Loved the Hobbiton Tour...
Loved the Hobbiton Tour with transportation! The ride was relaxing and safe. Hanoz provided funny commentary along the way and was able to get us back to the city in time for our concert later that evening! Win! The movie set tour was out of this world and we're so glad we took the day to go see it.
A fun tour for The LOTR Hobbit fans and aspiring fans!
Our friendly Cheeky Kiwi Tour driver-guide Hanoz was terrific, providing interesting commentaries on Hobbiton and Auckland as well as New Zealand history and culture, while driving professionally and safely, for a comfortable mini-bus ride from downtown Auckland to Hobbiton and back. The drive from Auckland to Hobbiton takes over two hours and Hanoz's personable style and humour seemed to make the time go by fast. Good job Hanoz! Being a fan of The Lord Of The Rings/Hobbit movies, I was looking forward to visiting The Shire set and the set tour did not disappoint! Molly, our enthusiastic and knowledgeable Hobbiton guide was fantastic, providing loads of background and inside information of how many of the memorable scenes of the three movies were created at the actual set locations. We had ample time to take pictures and videos as we were guided through the sprawling set. This was a super fun experience and I highly recommend it, especially if you're a fan of the movies, or aspire to be one.
