A Great Trip on a Paddleboat
Who can pass on a trip up the Mississippi River on a paddleboat? Along the way, a historian told us about the history of the area and then we toured the historic Chalmette Battlefield with a talk by a National Park Ranger. It was a great afternoon.
Good, but poor start
We took the history tour to the Battle of New Orleans battlefield. It was a pleasant ride downriver and an interesting visit to the battlefield. We did enjoy it. I found it very interesting to see the working boats and ships going about their business. The history narration was very good until the crowd got too noisy. What we didn’t enjoy was the free-for-all start. With rain threatening, we wanted to make sure we got a good interior seat so we got there early and got in line. As the starting time approached, people started walking right past us and bunched up around the starting point. At least 35 people ignored the line, passed us, moved to the front and went in before us. The Creole Queen people stood there and watched. Really people, it would be easy to make this a more fair process. Why start the tour with a negative?
Paddlewheel just ok battlefield very interesting
There really were no interesting sights. The best thing was the stop at the battlefield. Much of what was told on the ship was told on the battlefield stop. Listening to the story on the battlefield was very interesting. If the only way to get to the battlefield is by this boat then do it because the story is very interesting. Stop was too short the guide at the battlefield was still talking
Disappointed by the trip.
Well, the trip was not what we had hoped for. On the way to the island with the historic house and the defense facility, we were overwhelmed with information. Then we had to leave the steamboat and listen to a presentation from a staff member of the park. Then we went back on the ship at a snail's pace, but this time on the other side... for 51 euros per person, that is quite a lot. Oh yes, a photo is taken beforehand, which can then be purchased on the return trip for 25 dollars. We did not buy it. It could have been included in the price.
Live jazz paddle boat
The employees were very helpful and informative. There was not much setting around the band, and some areas being closed we were not able to listen to band in person
