Itinerary

1

Get picked up by our friendly driver and take a 20 minute scenic drive through rural villages to the incredible, karst-dotted Thalane Bay, located in the north of Krabi. After arriving at the kayaking center with a private pier, enjoy a coffee while your guide will prepare the equipment and study the tide tables. Get a short briefing on how to use the paddles before boarding the open kayaks. Start paddling a short distance through open water from the launching point to the mangroves forest of Ao Thalane. The guide will lead you through shallow channels, over submerged roots and even paddle right next to almost vertical limestone cliffs, towering above you. Spot cliffs with supposedly thousand year old historical paintings done by sea gypsies who once lived in these area. At times, stop paddling and just listen. Silence, except for occasional sound of cicadas and rustling of leaves overhead. The aerial roots of the mangroves at Ao Thalane are home to many crustaceans which attract many game fish like snappers in these waters. Some parts of the journey requires you to negotiate sharp turns in tight spaces as you wave your way through the forest. Therefore, this tour is specially designed making it semi-private, a maximum of 10 people to one guide. Enjoy the undeveloped environment without unpleasant crowds. Enter a large cave with stalagmites and stalactites which was named the Crocodile Cave, probably because some of the hanging stalactites may look like a crocodile to those with a bit of imagination. You can spot several species of birds and monkeys, in particular the crab-eating macaque monkey, and if you are lucky large water monitors (a lizard that looked like the Komodo Dragon). Leave the cave, and continue through a lagoon on your way out from the forest. Surrounded by the limestone karsts, this spectacular seascape at this part of Ao Thalane is the filming location for many movies. The total paddle time is around 2 hours, not including breaks. A set menu lunch is available if you have booked the lunch option, for those who prefer to strengthen themselves for the kayaking session. Itinerary: • 08:00 - 08:30: Hotel pickup in Krabi • 08:30 - 09:00: Arrive at Sea Kayak Pier in Ao Thalane • 09:00 - 09:30: Enjoy a fresh coffee and get instructions from the guide • 09:30 - 10:00: Start paddling from the pier to the mangrove forest • 10:00 - 11:30: Enter the Ao Thalane canyon by kayak • 11:30 - 12:30: Eat lunch at the pier (if lunch option has been booked) • 12:30 - 13:00: Transfer back to your hotel

Great day

This was one of my favourite tours in Krabi. Our guide Bang, was extremely knowledgeable, kind & funny! He provided us with safety instructions and allowed us to enjoy our day kayaking around the man grooves. It was so peaceful & to top it off we saw a kingfisher & some monkeys!! We also paid the extra money (£6 I think it was) for the lunch option, which the food was unreal!! Honestly one of my favourite days of the holiday!

Highly Recommend!

My husband and I did the half-day tour with Ae, and it was an incredible experience! I booked it online the day before we were going to go. Shortly after, we received an email that included the time we would be picked up from our hotel. We were the only ones in the car and the driver was very friendly. When we got to the place, we found out we were the only ones in the group, so we had Ae, our guide, all to ourselves! Since it was just us, he suggested that instead of going to the canyon, where most people go, we go instead in the other direction to go through the mangroves and see a cave. We got to see monitor lizards, sea otters, sea eagles, and a monkey! Ae was so interesting to talk to, and he also took amazing photographs and videos of us all during the trip. They were truly artistic and beautiful. We loved learning about him growing up learning from his dad about fishing, and about the environment and how things had changed over history due to development and global warming. It was such a fun morning.

Best Activity in Krabi

We booked the tour a day before from Ao Nang beach market. The pickup was around 8.15 from hotel. We were 5 people including 2 kids (6, 13 yrs) and mother (70+ yrs). For mother we requested the guide to take her in his kayak for which he charged additional 300 Bhat. The total length of Kayaking part was arnd 7 KM and it though the water was quite calm, it was still quite a work to kayak all the way. There was a break for arnd 10-15 mins on a beach towards the end of journey. We had to leave our bags at a small room at the pier and they gave us water bag to keep valuables and phones on the kayak itself. Also provided us a water bottle each. Unfortunately a monkey jumped on our kayak during mangroves part and took the bottle away. We had booked kayak + Elephant safari tour so we also got lunch at the end of kayak. Good vegetarian Thai food
