In English, Seokguram means “Stone Cave Hermitage.” The artificial cave was first constructed by Kim Daeseong in 751 A.D according to Legends Seokguram was built for his parents from his former life.

Seoraksan Mountain is one of Korea's most famous tourist destinations. It was designated as Korea's fifth national park and Korea's first UNESCO Biosphere Reserv. and the southern section ("Namseorak"). Daecheongbong Peak (1,708 m) is covered with snow for five to six months of the year, the mountain got the name "Seorak" (meaning a snowy peak).
