Sealy Mansion (Open Gates) John Sealy wanted to the best for his family so, we decided to build them the largest and most lavish house on the Island. The children play room was in the attic and had a Broadway stage. To this day the children continue to perform for anyone brave enough to witness the stage doors opening and closing by themselves. Magnolia Sealy, the head of the household is seen wandering the halls too shy to speak with visitors.

Needs some improving.

We were hoping for a spooky ghost tour to entertain the grandkids, but this was more of a history tour with just a few ghost stories sprinkled in. That would’ve been fine, but we’ve already done the history tours in Galveston, so most of it felt like a repeat for us. Unfortunately, the grandkids (Teens) were bored out of their minds, and we were left trying to keep them engaged throughout the long walk. Our guide, who referred to himself as “Dave in Galveston,” who is a BOI wanna be was just okay. He came across as arrogant at times and made jokes at guests’ expense, brushing them off with a “just kidding” that didn’t really land well. Because we all knew he was not. I thought maybe it was just me being sensitive until I asked my wife what she thought—and she shocked me by saying, “He was a D!#K.” Coming from her, that really said something, and all I could do was laugh. The tour also dragged on longer than necessary. Visuals were shown on a tiny phone screen, which was frustrating—an iPad would have made a big difference. Perhaps it is not in the budget of the guide or touring company. And the repeated tipping spiel at the beginning and end of the tour felt excessive. Most adults understand how tipping works; one reminder would have sufficed. Maybe it was just an off night, but next time we’ll try a different company when family comes to visit.

Loved Galveston History

My daughter, her friend and I had a great time on the Great Galveston Ghost tour. We loved learning the history of Galveston- it made us look at the city in a new light and appreciate everything it is now. Dave was a great guide- engaging and funny, but told great stories! 10/10 recommend!
