Itinerary
With more than a thousand structures spread out over 40 square blocks, Old Louisville is one of the largest historic districts in the United States. This is a transitional neighborhood and you should expect to encounter things you would in any larger city. Panhandlers and homeless people, for example, are often found along Fourth Street at the north edge of the neighborhood. This is a walking tour and we do not enter any structures, as most of the houses in Old Louisville are private residences. We do stop in front of the Conrad-Caldwell House Museum, and you can arrange with them to tour the mansion for a fee.

Just like its famous cousin in New York City, Louisville's Central Park was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. With 14 acres of native tree species and shaded walkways, this four-square-block space counts as the green heart of the neighborhood. It's also where Shakespeare in the Park takes place each summer, since 1961, making it the nation's oldest free outdoor Shakespeare event.
Built in 1905, the Ferguson Mansion once counted as the grandest home in the city. A splendid example of Beaux Arts architecture, it today is headquarters for the Filson Historical Society. Visits can be arranged separately.
At the heart of the old Millionaires Row, the Bernheim Mansion features green men arranged around a triple Roman-arched porch. This is just one of the features that sets this impressive Richardsonian Romanesque mansion apart.
Hear the legend of a famous gnarled and twisted tree where witches used to meet!
Since the 1890s, this lovely fountain featuring a statue of Venus rising from the sea has been the symbol of Old Louisville.

Traveler reviews
Must do tour
Such a great time! The 3 hours flew by with all the super interesting stories. David did an excellent job of keeping all of us captivated and he has great energy and knowledge. He also did a wonderful job of mixing in all kinds of stories with some being about the show, some being about the book, some ghost stories, some about the area, etc. It was really a blast and I strongly recommend this tour.
Amazing Experience on the Glitter Ball tour!!
We had a fantastic time with David on the Glitter Ball City walking tour! David is a master storyteller and hearing the stories from the book while viewing the various locations really brought the book to life for us. We are looking forward to returning for the Victorian Ghost Walk in October. Don't miss this tour!
Glitter Ball City
Such a crazy but interesting story. And speaking with David (the author of “A Dark Room in Glitter Ball City”) was a treat.
Highly recommend!!
Informative, David was so personable. Looking forward to doing other tours!! As a Louisville native, I learned so much history of my own city!
Chilling, Thrilling and Fulfilling
A chilly, drizzly evening in November, a perfect backdrop for a murder tour. David; our tour guide and author of the book was energetic, fun and full of stories of old Louisville. He regaled us with gossip, ghost stories, witches, his own personal stories and historical events of the mansions in the neighborhood. Our tour ended with a very special visit into one of the restored mansions. We were greeted by a handsome gentleman and welcomed into his fabulous home. Exquisitely appointed, warm and welcoming, I could almost hear the laughter and jocularity of Derby parties and grand dinner events. The owner was inviting and charming, I was envious of the life he has built for his family. A great evening that started with a bourbon, a really cute glitterball necklace and ended with a signed copy of David’s book. Once I finish the book, I will do the tour again.
