The pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx are among the most popular tourist destinations in the world, and indeed already were even in Roman times. Each of these spectacular structures served as the final resting place of a king of the 4th Dynasty (c.2613–2494 BC). The Great Pyramid of Giza was built for king Khufu (c.2589–2566 BC), and the other two for Khafre and Menkaure, his son and grandson. Khufu’s pyramid is both the oldest and largest of the three.
Khufu's pyramid complex consists of a valley temple, now buried beneath the village of Nazlet el-Samman; diabase paving and nummulitic limestone walls have been found but the site has not been excavated.
Khafre's pyramid complex consists of a valley temple, the Sphinx temple, a causeway, a mortuary temple and the king's pyramid. The valley temple yielded several statues of Khafre. Several were found in a well in the floor of the temple by Mariette in 1860
Menkaure's pyramid complex consists of a valley temple, a causeway, a mortuary temple, and the king's pyramid. The valley temple once contained several statues of Menkaure. During the 5th Dynasty, a smaller ante-temple was added on to the valley temple.
The Sphinx dates from the reign of king Khafre.[10] During the New Kingdom, Amenhotep II dedicated a new temple to Hauron-Haremakhet and this structure was added onto by later rulers

Traveler reviews
Amazing tour of Pyramids and more!
We had a wonderful tour with Mohamed Hamed. We started early and were one of the first at the pyramids. This made for such a pleasant experience! We had the pyramids almost all to ourselves. From there we visited the Sphinx and then went to Sakkara. We ended in Memphis and then stopped for lunch on our way home. Mohamed was so great and provided so much history and knowledge throughout our entire day. Would definitely recommend him!
Best guide of all tours so far in Egypt
My guide was very knowledgeable, kind, and made sure I would not be hassled by vendors throughout my whole tour. I saved the pyramids for my last day in Egypt and had already seen all the major temples from Aswan to Luxor; my guide for this trip was easily the best of all of them. It also goes without saying that the pyramids are incredible, even after seeing all the other ancient sites. Sakkara is absolutely worth adding on. I would have been ok not seeing Memphis if I was limited on time, but the entrance fee was only 80 EGP for this one. I didn’t realize it would be a private tour for just me (I was traveling solo), so this turned out to be an even better deal than I thought. I never felt rushed, and we had great conversations about Egyptian and global politics on top of all the ancient history. I had the option to go to perfume, papyrus, jewelry, and cotton shops but was never made to feel like I needed to go (I only went to the cotton one, which turned out to be not my style at all). I highly recommend this tour! Of note, entrance fees are not included and total ~400 EGP for all sites as of April 2019 (half off if you bring a student ID card, pictures of ID’s are not accepted).
Most memorable and excellent Egypt experience
Our Egypt experience would have not been memorable if not for our excellent tour guide. Essam made me and my friend very safe. He is very courteous and knowledgeable. He became our official photographer and bodyguard at the same time. He made sure that all our needs are met. He is very professional in what he does. I highly recommend him to my family and friends. There was never an uncomfortable moment while we were with him. He treated us as his guest to his country. He is very polite and humble.
Excellent!
My husband and I took this tour yesterday. We were so happy with the service and our guide tour Ola. She was very knowledgeable and sweet. I will really recommend it. They accomplished everything they had promised. It was a great experience!!! Marianela
Ahmed Tonis is the absolute BEST guide!!!
My boyfriend and I went in September to Egypt. Tonsi was our guide. Believe me when I tell you that he is the absolute BEST!!! He knows so much and does his work with all his heart. If you love adventure, he’s your man. He picked us up from our hotel in Giza, we drove to the pyramids and what an amazing time we had!! I’ve been dreaming of Egypt for over 20 years since I was a little girl. Tonsi seriously made my dreams come true. We became such good friends. My boyfriend and I are already planning our next trip back to Egypt.
