Traveler reviews
Excellent tour
I took the Gabriel García Márquez Tour in Cartagena and it was an extraordinary experience. More than a tourist tour, it is a true journey through the life, work, and legacy of one of the greatest writers in universal literature. The guide demonstrated extensive knowledge about Gabriel García Márquez and narrated in a fascinating way the most important moments of his life, from his origins in the Caribbean region to his recognition as a Nobel Prize in Literature. Throughout the tour, the influences that Cartagena had on his life and work are explained, as well as numerous little-known anecdotes that allow for a better understanding of the man behind the writer. One of the aspects I liked the most was the intellectual depth of the tour. It does not limit itself to mentioning dates or places, but connects García Márquez's story with the cultural, political, and social context of the Colombian Caribbean. Additionally, very interesting details were shared about his visits to Cartagena, his ties to the city, the friendships he cultivated here, and how some corners of Cartagena inspired passages and atmospheres present in his writings. The narration was dynamic, enjoyable, and enriching, managing to make even those who already know García Márquez's work discover new aspects of his life. I recommend this tour to literature lovers, students, academics, and anyone interested in learning more about Colombian history and culture. Without a doubt, one of the best cultural experiences I have enjoyed in Cartagena.
