Full description
Florence's Duomo draws a line that can eat up your whole morning if you show up unprepared, which is exactly why this walk saves it for last with skip the line access. You'll start by winding through the city's grandest civic square and its old artisan streets, then cross a bridge that's spanned the Arno for nearly 700 years. The walk finishes at the Duomo itself, where priority tickets get you inside ahead of the line so your guide can talk you through Brunelleschi's dome and the cathedral's marble facade while everyone else outside is still waiting to get in.
Piazza San Marco to Piazza della Signoria: Florence's political heart
Your guide meets you in Piazza San Marco and walks you toward the historic center. Along the way, you'll pass through Piazza della Signoria, in front of the Palazzo Vecchio, which has been the seat of Florentine government since the 14th century. Your guide shares stories from the Medici era as you pass through, including the square's role in centuries of political drama.
Il Porcellino and the leather market: artisan Florence
The walk continues through streets once filled with Florence's leatherworkers and craftsmen, passing Il Porcellino, the city's famous bronze boar, on the way toward the river.
Ponte Vecchio: Florence's oldest crossing
You'll reach the Ponte Vecchio, the only bridge in Florence still standing on its original medieval foundations, having crossed the Arno for nearly 700 years.
Piazza del Duomo: the cathedral, saved for last
From the bridge, the walk continues to the cathedral complex. Before heading inside, you'll stop in front of the Baptistery, where your guide points out the bronze doors known as the Gates of Paradise. Ten panels tell the story of the Old Testament, and Michelangelo is said to have given the doors their name.
Inside the Duomo: priority access, no waiting
Your ticket takes you straight past the general admission line. Inside, your guide explains how Brunelleschi built the largest brick dome in the world without any modern machinery, along with the story of the cathedral's marble facade and floor.
Please note: You'll need dress appropriately - covering your shoulders and knees and avoid wearing flip-flops and heeled shoes - since the Cathedral enforces a dress code.
