Itinerary
From the starting point in this remote village, the walk takes you out into the Atlantic Ocean with spectacular seascapes on all sides. We commence the walk by climbing the style that takes you over the sheep proof fence. A short climb gets your heart pumping and fills your lungs with wild Atlantic air. Some of the track is muddy but much of the very wet spots are crossed with a boardwalk. The Stags of Broadhaven can seen in the distance reminding us of the fact that they were formed almost 1.6 billion years ago. There are some great opportunities for fantastic photographs. Don't worry you will have plenty of time go get the shot that will remind you of a great day out.
The total distance for the walk is about 5km but there is plenty of time to stop and take in the variety of views of super seascapes on all sides. You will hear stories of tragedy and sadness along with stories of spectacular success from the region. Convivial conversation will help to pass the time as you admire the ever changing views.
The sheep and their cute lambs are a great photo opportunity while you hear how the ram 'covers' five sheep a day and loses 15% of his body weight in the process. The track levels out here and its a chance to catch your breath.
The sea views continue to amaze as we approach the island (Illandavuck) at the top of Erris Head. Check out the Fulmars nesting on the cliffs opposite. As these birds spend most of their time at sea, their legs will not support their body weight. You will hear their distinct call as the swoop through are using the wind to assist them. From here a short climb takes us to the WW2 lookout post from where the coast watchers observed many instances from the Battle of the Atlantic and reported the resulting bodies that were washed ashore. Proceeding downhill we will see the Eire 69 sign, an impressive blowhole and a trig. pillar created by the ordinance survey.

Refreshing beautiful scenery & good company -
My guide was brilliant. Very knowledgeable about the area from history to geology! Stories told in an easy way and well paced. I was a bit nervous of the walk as I was worried I was going to be slow but my worries were unfounded. The walk was well selected & pace easy.
In nature.
Being in the open air with unrestricted views of the ocean, the islands and the beauty that is Erris Head. Our guide was excellent knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Highly recommended. A wonderful experience!
Exactly what I was hoping for!
Wonderful experience! Neal picked up our group of 3 in Belmullet. The drive was full of information on the area. The walk itself is gorgeous and delightfully enhanced by the informative tour. It is a moderate hike with some hills and uneven surfaces. Neal answered all our questions, made us laugh, and stopped for all the photos we wanted. Highly recommend!
Fun and insightful tour
Erris Head is a gorgeous place to walk and soak in the beauty of Ireland. This was my first time visting Ireland and Neil made sure we saw every part of Erris Head explaining the rich history and culture. Neil is such an amazing person and we enjoyed the walk and talk exchanging culture ( I'm from Mumbai). Neil picked us up from our hotel which was a nice touch and much appreciated. He also gifted us his book on Belmullet. Would visit again for sure. highly recommend Alchemy tours.
