East Zion Crimson Canyon Hike & UTV Adventure

This was exhilarating, scary in the best way, and something that, once you've accomplished it and wipe away that little bead of cold sweat, you say, “hell yeah”, as you give your partner one of those Top Gun high fives. We checked in at the reception desk, which was in a coffee shop, which was attached to a gas station. Just look for the UTVs and the tourists with nervous smiles and you know you've found the right spot. That's where we met Lonnie, our wonderful guide and driver of this Mad Max kind of off road vehicle. The dirt road to the mouth of the canyon was winding and very bumpy, but it's short and the UTVs are open air. If you're prone to motion sickness, this might be a little rough on you, but my wife can get sickness inside the breakwater and she was able to handle it. Plus, once you get to the entrance of the canyon, you kind of forget everything and are just in awe of this gorgeous landscape. After we donned our helmets and a brief safety meeting, we headed into Crimson Canyon. Trust me, it's more amazing than the pictures you've seen and the pictures you take won't quite do it justice. We signed up for the noon tour so that the sun would be as directly overhead as possible. And the sun did not disappoint. The dim rust color canyon walls erupt into a bright orange as you turn a corner and a shaft of light illuminates the sandstone. You stare in wonder and the guides kindly take amazing pictures of you to make all your Insta followers envious. But then the adventure begins. Some tours end as soon as you come to the first boulder that blocks your path. Not this one. With expert instructions, the guides help you negotiate a path upward and over large boulders that have wedged themselves between the canyon walls. You'll be amazed at what you can do once you conquer your fear. Our group was great and super encouraging and our guides, Lonnie and John were absolutely pumped when each of us made it over or down past a boulder that seemed impassable. This adventure flooded my senses. My eyes were filled with the beauty of the canyon, my brain was full of fear of doing the impossible, and my heart was full of adrenaline when I conquered each obstacle. This tour and our guides were awesome! I would highly recommend it to anyone who's up for a bit of a challenge. Each section of the canyon after a boulder we climbed over was more striking than the last and well worth the effort to get to see it all. Thank you, Lonnie and John, for an incredible time.

This tour was the highlight of our Zion national park trip . We visited two canyon caves and took amazing pictures . This tour is safe for kids and seniors as well

This is a very strenuous activity for someone my age (78), but the excellent guides provided great detailed instructions for each obstacle and extra assistance as needed. The canyon is beautiful and a wonderful experience.

Well worth the cost in all categories of what you see, the friendly expertise of the guides and the helpfulness of the operators.
