Day Trip of Donegal Coast
Renting a bike from Ireland By Bike was a really good experience. It is a nice locally run family business. When I emailed about renting a bike they were quick to respond and answered any questions that arose. I was staying in Donegal town and took a morning bus to Carrick and upon arrival the bike was ready to go for me to head out. It was my first time using an e bike so I was given a good run down of how it works. The bike was equipped with a detailed map of the area and good descriptions on where to go/ what to see and good directions, it also came with paniers and a handy handle bar bag. The bike was also in excellent shape. The bike was available for me all day even after closing time which is really nice if you want to extend the bike day into the evening. The area is beautiful and exploring it by bike is a really great way to really get a feel of the area. I highly recommend Ireland By Bike if you are in the area for a bit or if you are looking to do a multi day bike tour.
Take in the scenery of Glen Colmcille
Due to the heavy rain, we popped down to pick up our bikes a bit later in the day once the weather cleared. We were welcomed by Nora and our two bikes were both ready for pick up. The bikes were fantastic and so was the weather. If we hit a hill the bikes were put into Turbo mode which made the hills a breeze. The Silver Strand Beach is simply stunning and the route and the views were very enjoyable. After our day out we went to the Rusty Nail for dinner. You get so much more cycling the route provided and it was one of the highlights of our trip away. Nora was very flexible and even told us that if our batteries ran out, to come back and get a replacement. We were away for around four hours and returned our bikes with the batteries still nearly fully charged. If you are in the area, hire a bike and take in the scenery. Very enjoyable and with such good bikes, very relaxing.
Best Excursion of our Trip!
Incredible experience. We were a group of 11 friends from the Dallas / Fort Worth area traveling on the Oceania Vista. During our stop in Killybegs we did the Donegal Coast One Day Self-Guided E-Bike Tour. It was our favorite excursion of this trip! Seamus of Ireland by Bike was fantastic. I had contacted him in advance and he arranged transportation to and from the dock to his shop in Carrick where our adventure began. We started riding at around 10:00am and finished at 4:00pm, then had a "pint" at a local pub before our driver picked us up at 4:30pm. We rode at a fairly relaxed pace and stopped a number of times. This route could have been completed an hour or more faster for a smaller group or those that biked at a faster pace. The scenery was spectacular and included some great walks (e.g., Sliabh Liag and Silver Strand Beach). I won't list all the stop options because they are covered well in the itinerary. We had lunch at the Rusty Mackerel in Carrick and the Guinness Irish Stew was excellent.
It was a great day trip...
It was a great day trip -Silver Strand Beach, Glencolmcille, Sliebh Lieg. The scenery was spectacular. I didn’t get the name of the assistant but she was very helpful and got us off to a great start. The bikes were great quality at a very reasonable price. I would recommend this trip.
10/10 experience biking through donegal
10/10 experience biking through Donegal. This was such a unique experience to be able to bike along the coasts and go at your own pace. The e-bikes provided a lot of assistance which made it much easier to bike farther and faster. So many sheep on the way!! Slieve League was absolutely incredible as was Silver Strand Beach. Seamus was very friendly and welcoming when we arrived, and we are so grateful he allowed us to return our bikes a bit later so that we could take our time at each stop! Would recommend this to anyone visiting Ireland, it may be far from Dublin but it is worth the trip 100%!!
