I’m extremely disappointed with my experience with Strömma. I went to the Strömma ticket kiosk and specifically asked for the Stockholm Highlights tour. Instead, I was issued a ticket for the three-hour “Archipelago Tour with Guide.” I did not realise at the time that I had been given a completely different tour from the one I had requested. My ticket clearly confirms that I was issued the Archipelago Tour, departing at 15:00. Unfortunately, the tour I was mistakenly put on was also extremely disappointing. The biggest problem was the timing of the commentary. The guide repeatedly described landmarks and points of interest long before we were actually able to see them — sometimes around ten minutes beforehand. By the time the relevant sight came into view, he had long since moved on to something else. It made it incredibly difficult to connect what we were being told with what we were actually looking at, which rather defeats the purpose of having a live sightseeing guide. Eventually, I approached the guide and politely explained the problem: he was describing things considerably earlier than passengers were able to see them. His response was: “That’s why you have a map.” This was particularly unhelpful because none of the passengers sitting around me even seemed to know that there was a map. It had certainly never been pointed out or explained to us. More importantly, passengers on a guided sightseeing cruise should not have to spend the journey studying a map and trying to work out which landmark the guide was referring to several minutes earlier. Surely the purpose of live commentary is to explain what passengers are seeing at approximately the time they can actually see it. Unfortunately, the delivery of the commentary was also extremely monotonous. Combined with the poor timing, it made what should have been an enjoyable three-hour cruise through a beautiful part of Stockholm feel very long indeed. The Stockholm archipelago itself is beautiful, and the scenery obviously isn’t the problem. The experience was let down by the quality and timing of the commentary and, most importantly, by the fact that this wasn’t even the tour I had asked to take in the first place. I had specifically planned my day around taking the Stockholm Highlights tour. Being issued a ticket for a different three-hour tour meant I not only missed the experience I had requested, but also lost a significant portion of my final sightseeing time in Stockholm. When a customer specifically asks for a particular tour at the company’s own ticket kiosk, I think it is reasonable to expect to be issued a ticket for that tour — or, at the very least, to be clearly told if they are being offered something different. Sadly, based on my experience, I cannot recommend this tour or the service I received from Strömma. 1/5.
