Full description

This 5.5-hour private guided tour combines reserved-entry access to the Musée d’Orsay with a guided walk through Montmartre. Explore the museum’s Impressionist and Post-Impressionist collection with your own guide, then travel to Montmartre with transport included. See the Moulin Rouge exterior, artists’ haunts, and Sacré-Cœur, where the tour ends.

Begin inside the Musée d’Orsay, a former railway station built for the 1900 World’s Fair. Your private guide introduces the artistic changes behind Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, with works that may include Manet’s Luncheon on the Grass, Renoir’s Dance at Le Moulin de la Galette, Van Gogh’s Starry Night Over the Rhône, and Monet paintings. Individual artworks may be unavailable because of loans, restoration, or changing displays.

After the museum visit, included transport takes you to Montmartre. Walk past the Moulin Rouge and through the neighborhood associated with artists, cabarets, and the Belle Époque. Stops may include Rue Lepic, the Moulin de la Galette, La Maison Rose, Place du Tertre, and other sites along the route. Finish outside Sacré-Cœur with panoramic views of Paris. Entry to the basilica, if available, is independent and is not part of the guided tour.

We booked this tour to get as much as possible out of our time at The Met. What we didn’t know we were getting was a personalized experience full of captivating stories about the artists' lives and the people who brought the art to the museum. Robin was a wealth of knowledge and a highlight of our trip to New York!

Mark, tour guide for the Metropolitan Museum is an outstanding teacher: engaging; entertaining; professional; personable; experienced and deeply knowledgeable as a result of a lifelong passion and relationship with the Met. He loves what he does and cares deeply about sharing his knowledge and insight to spark curiosity and inspire his clients--his students--to understand context and meaning of each piece or work of art reviewed. My wife, a retired professor emeritas and myself both left thoroughly impressed and grateful to have been taught by best and most captivating guides we have had the privilege of meeting on one of our many travels and adventures. Hire the best. Hire Mark. Worth every penny and every minute of your time you can afford at the Met. Like us, you will look forward to coming back for another teaching session from Mark. In my case, hopefully we will be back on my birthday next year! (Thanks again Mark!)
