Colosseum Underground & Forum Tour

Our reservation got passed around to a couple of actual operators which was a little concerning, but when we got there everything came together well. Patricio our guide was very knowledgeable and personable, and also knew how to keep the pace just right.

We enjoyed this tour. When booking there was only the 8:45am opening available. It ended up being a blessing in disguise for several reasons. First, when we visited it was very hot, so starting early allowed us to tour with “cooler” weather (if you can call 98 degrees cool). Secondly, there was less people. The tour was helpful bc it explained the forum and Roman ruins and helped paint the picture of what happened so long ago. Unless you know a lot about the ruins, you need a tour to avoid just wandering around looking at artifacts. If going during the heat, make sure to wear a hat or use and umbrella, bring a water bottle (you can refill along the tour), bring a bag to store your ticket you get from the tour guide (that you will need to show at least 6 times) and your passport/ID. Yes you actually have to show your ID. Wear comfortable sneakers that you can easily walk in over cobblestone pathways. Lastly, know that there is a good bit of walking involved. We started by walking up to the forum and needed at the Colosseum. If you know what to expect and prepare yourself (shoes, water bottle, etc), you will enjoy this tour. Don’t be like the lady at the start of our tour who had a small fit bc she did not want walk up the forum first.

Unfortunately, our experience with TOURIKS was extremely disappointing. There was an issue with the name on one of our tickets and, rather than helping us resolve the matter in accordance with Colosseum policies, staff encouraged us to attempt entry despite the discrepancy. We did not feel comfortable proceeding in a way that could violate the site’s official requirements. To avoid missing our visit entirely, we purchased new tickets at our own expense. No credit or refund, accommodation was offered. Additionally, the Forum portion of the experience that we paid for was not properly provided, and our requests for assistance and follow-up regarding the digital ticket went unanswered. Problems can happen with any tour company, but what matters is how those problems are handled. In this case, we felt there was a lack of communication, customer service, and a genuine effort to help paying customers find a reasonable solution. Future visitors should verify all ticket information well in advance and be prepared for limited support if issues arise on the day of the tour. I would avoid this company.

Laura was very knowledgeable. Added historical information as well as info about local plants. Very mindful of the extreme heat. She was fabulous.
