Itinerary
Pass by: Our cruise begins with a brief history of Westport Harbour; once the third largest tonnage harbour in all of Ireland.
Pass by: Our next sight is Clew Bay's oyster farms. We passed over the area where over 1 million oysters are harvested every year.
Pass by: Our next sight is the scene of the Achill Disaster. On the 14th June 1894, 30 Achill Islanders lost their lives as they made their way by hooker to Westport to board the SS Elm ; a steamship bound for Glasgow.
Pass by: Our next sight is the "Holy Mountain" of Croagh Patrick. Admire the mountain from the sea as it towers over the south side of the bay.
Pass by: Our next sight is the idyllic Maharishi Island of World Peace; a mecca for those in search of enlightenment.
Pass by: Our next sight is the southern islands of Clew Bay. We enter an area where we're surrounded by these flooded drumlin islands.
Pass by: Our next sight is the infamous John Lennon's island ; a hideaway retreat owned and frequented by the famous Beatle John Lennon.
Pass by: Our next sight is the majestic Inishgort Lighthouse , nestled at the bay's entrance. Since 1806 it has aided ships approaching Westport and Newport.
Pass by: Our next sight, in the distance, is Clare Island ; the guardian of Clew Bay.
Pass by: Our final sight is the Seal Colony ( can occur earlier in the cruise depending where the seals are located ). We cruise through their habitat, observing them on the rocks and in the water.

A cruise around Clew Bay
Amazing scenery. Knowledgeable staff who provided witty and informative commentary. Get there early if you want to sit in the open upstairs. Added bonus of a singer/guitarist on the return leg of the trip. Facilities included a bar serving hot/cold drinks and snacks and toilet. A trip worthy of the cost.
Cruise with live music.
I booked this thinking it was at Galway city🤔. We drove from the city to Westport for the midday cruise. and enjoyed the scenery although rather murky. The cruise was fine. The skipper made the most of what was there history wise. We saw the seals. A guitar player/singer entertained us on the way back.
Great fun and value for money
This tour is great, such good value for money. The host Ed was so engaging and gave us facts mixed with grrat humour. You get to see all of Clew Bay and great views of Croagh Patrick. The bar on board and live music is an nice addition to the trip.
Clew Bay Cruise
We enjoyed a wonderful and very informative cruise. All the staff were very helpful and pleasant. We were allowed bring our dog on board and she enjoyed all the lovely attention from the staff and passengers . Our pilot was excellent in explaining the trip etc to us and he had a very good sense of humour. Mary our guide was fantastic. She was excellent in pointing out all the interesting islands . Her love of Clew Bay and Mayo shone through in her joyous storytelling . The singer ( apologises i cannot recall his name) was a joy to listen to. The facilities on the boat were excellent, coffee was lovely. The boat was very clean and well maintained. The jetty access was very safe and wheelchair and pram accessible. I would recommend this trip.
Great tour!
