Traveler reviews
May in the garden is lovely
During a chilly mid-May, do not expect the walled garden to be flush with blooms. However, the woodland garden was vibrant with azaleas and rhododendrons. At this time of year there were fewer visitors, leading to a lovely and tranquil exploration of the garden.
Recharge and Enjoy the Beauty of Nature
To celebrate our wedding anniversary we decided to Book one of the Eco cabins for 3 nights. The cabin was compact and cosy, it had everything you would need. The weekend we chose matched in with the Restival Festival. The two day weekend ticket was an extra €65 but well worth it. Arriving on the Friday we were met by Sam who showed us our cabin, even though he had already WhatsApp us all the important information before we arrived. He was extremely friendly and checked on us and our hot tub each day to make sure everything was ok. There was a welcome basket with Sourdough bread and eggs. We parked the car and put keys and phones away. We enjoyed walks around the gardens in the evenings when everyone was gone. We cycled the greenway on the bikes provided and sat in the hot tub as the sun went down. We had lunch in Stables cafe which was delicious. Above all every single member of staff we met was super friendly and helpful, no query was a problem. We hopefully will return again.
Breath taking floral display
We actually took out a membership of the gardens after a few visits last year and we are now going monthly to see the incredible display that each visit brings! You can go at your own pace but I will earn you at the moment with the colours and incredible shapes you tend to stop and take in the moment! What a way to forget about life! Followed by something nice in the restaurant of course!
A Very Special Place Altogether
I did an overnight stay at Mount Congreve in April. It was nothing short of fabulous. I need to break this review up into four experiences: The Gardens - obviously Just beautiful - I got the very end of the Magnolia blooms so I would recommend mid March if you want to catch them in their glory. The grounds are just magical. So many secret paths to roam and explore - I was like a child again. The range of plants is just astounding. Hard to believe that this piece of heaven was curated by the work of human hands. We are so lucky to have it. The Accommodation - wow! Well if you're looking for something special, look no further. I stayed in the courtyard suite. The attention to detail in the restoration is just stunning. The record player with the James Bond soundtracks (a bit scratchy in places but that just added to it, for me). The honesty bar - the donations all go back into maintaining Mount Congreve Estate. They have bicycles that guests can take onto the greenway and you get the code for the gates so you can enter the gardens after public visitor hours. Unbelievable. The room itself is stunning. The bed is very comfortable with Irish owned bed linen and super comfy pillows and mattress. The bathroom is fabulous - do note though that the bath is purely for housing the shower and is non functioning. Don't let that put you off though - you won't find many hotel rooms like this one. Excellent value for a wonderful nights' experience. The Cafe/Restaurant Delicious food and fabulous service. I had both dinner and breakfast there. Local produce, different twist on Eggs Benedict and the tartare sauce with my fish and chips was to die for. I couldn't fault it. The People I loved that so many of the staff seemed to be young, local people. The girls at the entrance to the gardens were so warm and friendly and professional. Frank in the cafe/restaurant - a great welcome for everyone coming in, always checking everyone is being looked after. Staff seem very happy and super helpful. Even gave me a filled ice bucket to bring back to the suite. Mary who looks after the accommodation. Talk about personable! Couldn't do enough. Had been trying to offer me an early check in but couldn't reach me. She did have a great chat with my mum in Sligo though due to a mix up in phone numbers!! Honestly, it was like staying with people you already know. Know it's a long review but it was a very special stay. You won't find many places like it. Huge congratulations on what they have achieved and I for one will be back for more. Thank you Mount Congreve!
A walk on the wildside
These gardens are just exceptional. They are full of colour, especially in April and they offer a great walking tour of a garden that is both cultivated and well looked after. There are many different species of plants and trees in the garden and it is broken up into different walks etc. It is just the great getaway needed.
