Itinerary
Pass by: You will be collected from your Cape Town area hotel or guest house at between 8:00 and 9:00 am and drive for approximately 20 minutes to one of the city's oldest townships known to the locals as Langa (meaning ‘Sun’ in Xhosa).
Upon arrival in this township, your guide/driver will introduce you to the local resident tour guide. Your personal local guide will accompany you and your small group on a short walking tour (0.5 miles or less than a kilometre), affording opportunities to interact with locals. The walking portion will start at Gugasthebe, a tourist information centre, where various non-profit organizations teach skills to the local youth. Then, you will visit what used to be a detention centre during apartheid, before proceeding to the local shebeen or tavern, where you will learn how the local beer is made. Afterwards, you'll visit the township's entrepreneurial businesswomen who prepare barbecue (braai) meat on the streets of Langa, old and new hostels to see the transformations done by the government in order to better residents' living conditions. In the Langa market, you will spend a few minutes with a traditional doctor (optional).
Then, you'll board the vehicle to explore other places of interest around the township before heading to a second township called Gugulethu, known to the locals as 'Gugs'. Gugulethu comes from Xhosa name ‘igugu lethu’ meaning 'our pride'. It was established in 1960 because Langa was overcrowded. The tour will drive to area attractions and stop for your included lunch at the at Teez African Restaurant. Here you will have an opportunity to eat and drink with the locals.
Pass by: At the end of the tour, you will be dropped off at your hotel at approximately 2pm.

Traveler reviews
Must see!
The tour was amazing! Sedick was very knowledgeable and one of the best guides I have encountered.
Langa Township Tour
This is an alarming and exceptional experience. I toured Langa with my family and I highly recommend it. Parts of it are heartbreaking and parts of it are uplifting. It ends with barbeque lunch which was delicious. Go do it!
Great tour with a private guide
It was a great full day tour from Capetown to the Cape of the Good Hope Tour. We've seen most of the sites on our wish list and have tremendously enjoyed our tour guide', Corney, company. He gave us a deep insight of the places we visited and was happy and open to answer any our questions. The combination of the local beauty and Corney' company was tremendously successful. Highly reccomended!)
