1

This hour long walking tour in Derry will also retrace parts of the original march and visit places where the dead and wounded fell. The Bogside History Tour will examine the political and social repercussions of Bloody Sunday. The tour will pass ‘The Museum of Free Derry’ and conclude at the Bloody Sunday monument within sight of Free Derry corner and beneath the city walls of Derry. The Bogside (Irish: Taobh an Bhogaigh) is a neighbourhood outside the city walls.. The large gable-wall murals by the Bogside Artists, Free Derry Corner and the Gasyard Féile (an annual music and arts festival held in a former gasyard) are popular tourist attractions. The area has been a focus point for many of the events of the Troubles; in 1969, a fierce three-day battle known as the Battle of the Bogside became a starting point of the Troubles.

Great History Tour

The Bogside History tour my girlfriend and I did was great. John Burke, our guide was very knowledgeable and was able to give even more personal insight as he is a local. Would highly recommend it to anyone that is interested in learning more about the Bogside.

A tour with Paul not to be missed!!

Paul met us with a warm welcome. Very informative and explained everything we wanted to know as well as the info he gave us. We found the whole experience so interesting and at times very moving. We were so pleased we did this tour as we now have a better understanding of the history of this tour. Very highly recommended.

A must do in Derry city

I was lucky enough to have a solo tour this past Sunday with the excellent tour guide, John Burke. What a privilege to get to spend time with someone who lived through the aftermath of the Battle of Bogside and Bloody Sunday. He trod honestly and carefully through a chequered history of the area and the Troubles providing facts and remaining impartial. As a British women, I felt it important to visit the area and didn’t regret my choice. I saw others self-guiding or reading from guide books, and would recommend to everyone to book on one of these tours to hear the story from people who lived and still live in the community. We walked much of the parade route and I learned the detail of what happened plus a lot of information about the survivors and ramifications. Fans of street art won’t be disappointed either with many poignant and impressive murals. John was generous with his time too and offered more history of this fascinating city. His passion for the city and commitment to the community was evident and I have no hesitation in highly recommending this tour.

Highly recommend! Moving and informative

Jimmy Toye was our guide. He participated in the Derry Civil Rights movement and was present at the Bloody Sunday murders. Personal, moving & informative. Important to learn about these recent events and lucky to do so from someone who lived through them.
