1

This hour long walking tour in Derry will also retrace parts of the original march and visit places where the dead and wounded fell. The Bogside History Tour will examine the political and social repercussions of Bloody Sunday. The tour will pass ‘The Museum of Free Derry’ and conclude at the Bloody Sunday monument within sight of Free Derry corner and beneath the city walls of Derry. The Bogside (Irish: Taobh an Bhogaigh) is a neighbourhood outside the city walls.. The large gable-wall murals by the Bogside Artists, Free Derry Corner and the Gasyard Féile (an annual music and arts festival held in a former gasyard) are popular tourist attractions. The area has been a focus point for many of the events of the Troubles; in 1969, a fierce three-day battle known as the Battle of the Bogside became a starting point of the Troubles.

Fantastic Experience!

John Burke delivered an absolutely outstanding Bogside history tour, combining deep knowledge with a genuine passion for Derry's past. His storytelling was exceptional, bringing historical events vividly to life and keeping the entire group captivated throughout the walk. John’s ability to explain complex and sensitive aspects of Bogside history with clarity, balance, and insight was truly impressive. His friendly manner, enthusiasm, and willingness to answer questions made the tour both informative and thoroughly enjoyable. Thanks to John Burke, what could have been a good tour became an unforgettable experience and one of the highlights of our visit to Derry. Many Thanks, John Joe Doherty

Don’t miss this tour!

Our tour with Jimmy was very informative and we learned a lot about the riots and Sunday Bloody Sunday. He was 18 in 1971 and witnessed the events he told us about which was powerful. What a great tour guide!

Impressive.

A very impressive experience! Our guide, Jimmy Toye, was 18 ttv the Troubles in the Bog. He is a great storyteller who gives the necessary framework and tells his story from his heart. Respect. A regular guide (who is not an expert) can never offer you this. Highly recommended.

A must do tour.

This tour was the highlight of my trip to Derry in the North of Ireland. Our tour guide Peter was fantastic. His passion and knowledge of the tragic events in The Bogside came from personal experience……….something you can’t learn. I highly recommend this tour if you want a true account of the events of Bloody Sunday and the significance of the murals. Thank you an amazing tour. Can’t wait to return.
