It was built in 1750, and was known as the Hall of Industrious Government. Emperor Qianlong ruled that the halls where monarchs attended to state affairs would be named after them. After the rebuilding of the Summer Palace, the hall was renamed, suggesting that benevolent rulers would enjoy long lives.
Kunming Lake was built during the Qing Dynasty in the early 18th century and was initially named Wengshan Lake. It was later renamed Kunming Lake to commemorate the emperor's hometown, Kunming. The lake holds a special place inthe hearts of the Chinese people as it symbolises harmony and peace. It is said thatthe lake was built to recreate the West Lake in Hangzhou, which was considered themost beautiful lake at the time.

Great operator
Unfortunately, the day we were due to go to the Summer Palace it was raining heavily and we decided not to go. Even though we had received our tickets from Lily's Tours, I requested a partial refund and was promptly refunded. I really appreciated the flexibility! We loved Beijing and will definitely be back to experience Summer Palace, and I will definitely be booking with Lily!
Summer Palace F&E
Perhaps the weather was not too good - cloudy and even low season, it was terribly crowded. It was kind of far from Beijing downtown to this place, so it made sense to spend at least 2-3 hours in this garden. Guess it is still an eye opener for those who have not visited a summer palace.
Summer Palace Ticket
Summer Palace Admission ticket pre-booking was easy and good. The place in there was great and beautiful around.
