Enjoy a day of authentic traditions and experiences in Portugal's greenest region: Alto-Minho

We'll start by discovering the historical centre of Barcelos, with its 14th-century bridge and the legend of the Portuguese ex-libris - Barcelos' Rooster. We'll taste the convent's pastries and learn about local recipes. The green landscapes where the vines of the exclusive Vinho Verde grow, will take us to the streets of the millenary village of Ponte de Lima, the oldest town in Portugal whose medieval historical centre will take us back in time. This village is the most important gastronomic capitals in the country, so it makes sense to delight in a delicious regional lunch, accompanied by the exclusive wines of the region. We'll visit the magnificent city of Viana do Castelo, whose sanctuary of Sta. Luzia will has one of the best panoramas in Europe, with a historical centre full of Art, Architecture and History. We'll still have time to enjoy a cocktail by the sea, in this coastal city.

1) Meeting with your guide

Your guide will meet you at your accommodation, to start your private experience (All inclusive) to the capitals of the Alto-Minho region: Barcelos, Ponte de Lima and Viana do Castelo.

2) Discover the historical centre of Barcelos and learn local traditions

We will visit the city of Barcelos, land of traditions and beautiful landscapes and also the Portuguese Ex-libris: The rooster.

We will discover the vast existing heritage, from the Romanesque to the Neoclassical, visible in monuments such as its Medieval Bridge, the Mother Church, the Paço dos Condes de Bragança, the Church of Senhor da Cruz, the Fountain of Campo da Feira, among many others.

This experience includes:

3) Explore the medieval centre of Ponte de Lima a try the local "Vinho Verde"

We will then discover the oldest town in Portugal, (royal charter of 1125), in a true journey through time.

We will walk through the typical alleys, the traditional shops, the medieval bridge and the panorama of the Lima river, so beautiful and mystical that it instigated the legend of the "Rio Lethes" in the Roman soldiers who passed through here, more than 2000 years ago. Here, it will be the perfect place to have an authentic experience and try the local Vinho Verde Wine and a snack to go along with it, in a local tavern/café.

5) Visit the Sanctuary of Santa Luzia and its famous panoramic viewpoint

It's now time to visit one of the pearls of Alto-Minho region: the Sanctuary of Santa Luzia.

Built in the beginning of the 20th century, on top of Santa Luzia hill, this Sanctuary is based on a romanesque-byzantine basilica, whose imposing rose windows are the largest in the Iberian Peninsula and the second largest in Europe. There, we will contemplate what was considered by National Geographic Magazine as the 3rd most beautiful panorama in the world.

6) Stroll through the historical centre of Viana do Castelo, the capital of Alto-Minho

This is the scenario we saw from the top of the Santa Luzia viewpoint - the Historical Centre of this city, whose privileged location relating to land routes ("Caminhos de Santiago"), river and sea routes, made the walled-fortress construction crucial, in the 14th century.

It is impossible not to give in to the charms of the alleys of the Historical Centre, one of the most beautiful and well preserved in the country, either due to the beautiful armored façades or the precious tile panels, constituting an authentic compendium of the history and tradition of Portugal. Right in main square, we will visit the National Costumes Museum, which gathers a collection of historical clothing and costume accessories from the 18th century to the present.
