Itinerary
This market is nicknamed Talat Rom Hup in Thai which means the "umbrella pulldown market". It is one of the largest fresh seafood markets in Thailand and is centered on the Maeklong Railway's track. Whenever a train approaches, the awnings and shop fronts are moved back from the rails, to be replaced once the train has passed.
When you arrive at the market, see the amazing array of vendors in their boats, selling fresh products, from fruits and vegetables to prepared dishes. Explore the floating market at your leisure for about an hour and take time to try some authentic Thai foods, such as Pad Thai, Mango Sticky Rice, Boat Noodles or Coconut Ice Cream sold along the canal.

Traveler reviews
Nice tour
The meeting point at the beninning and the transfers were very well organized. Pui, the guide, was very clear and precise since the beginning of the tour. During the bus transfers, all the precise instructions regarding timing and meeting points were provided, and historical and everyday information about the places visited was explained. Overall, everything was well organized.
This is a must
What an experience. We had a private tour that we arranged with a taxi and driver. We was dropped off near the location and given clear instructions on where to go and return. We noticed there was a board up in one of the shops giving the time of the train arrival and departure. Sadly we did have enough time to actually do train ride as well but just experience the train coming on tracks and how the market traders react and move their wears about. We sat on nearby track and had a cold drink each. Then ordered some snacks and yet another drink. When the train is due the tables are collapsed and have a framework they sit in and customers are encouraged to stand up into the restaurants off the tracks. Suddenly you hear the train coming all the market traders pull their goods in and protect the tourists. This was just an amazing experience. Highly recommended
Fun trip, don't miss out
Fun trip, the railroad is unbelievable and the boat ride was really cool. Travel to and from not bad. Tim is a great guide.
Interesting tour to former Thailand
Interesting tour, with very dedicated guide (Patty). The small group size was pleasant. You get a good idea of what it used to be like historically, now it is only for tourists, organized and accordingly crowded.
Mass tourism at its worst. Hundreds of tourists behaving stupidly trying to get selfies as the train approaches. Need to limit
Too many people. Stupid behaviour from tourists as they try to get a selfie as the train approaches. Lovely place great to see the train gently manoeuvre through the market but need to limit tourist numbers as the place is being destroyed by mass tourism.
