Continue past the Athens Trilogy, which includes the University of Athens, the Academy of Athens, and the National Library as your guide introduces you to the ancient and modern history of Athens.
Next, it's time for a photo stop at the white marble Panathinaiko Stadium where the first modern Olympic Games took place in 1896, before passing by Zappeion and the Temple of Olympian Zeus.
Make your way to the iconic Acropolis, one of the world's most recognized ancient sites. Visit Propylaea, the Acropolis' monumental entrance which blends Doric and Ionic building principles, and the small Temple of Athena Nike, which stands on a protruding mass of rock, protecting the gate to the ancient citadel. Best way to do the Acropolis on a short trip
We booked the Acropolis and Parthenon guided tour with entry tickets for June 18, and it was absolutely worth it — even with just two days in Athens. Our guide Petros was amazing. Super knowledgeable, genuinely nice, and the pacing was spot on. The tour was long enough to feel like we got a real, well-rounded understanding of the history, but not so long that we were miserable by the end in the June heat. We booked for 9 AM, which I'd highly recommend — it hadn't gotten too hot yet and we were done by noon with the whole rest of the day ahead of us. I also really appreciated that Petros pointed out other significant spots around the city as we walked and gave us suggestions for places to go beyond the tour. It felt like we got more out of Athens because of him. If you're on the fence about doing a guided tour, do it. Even on a short trip, it's well worth the time.
Great professional
Areti is a great professional. A wonderful experience with her. Thank you
Excellent value tour
We were visiting from Liverpool, our first time in Athens and our tour guide, Maria, really made the entire Acropolis come alive. EXCELLENT! It was well worth the time and the effort. I would recommend staying for the museum part of the tour as it added to the depth of understanding. An excellent and educational experience.
Historical tour
Very informative and amazing day , my guide had lots of information which helped to understand the history of the city
Quite a pleasant experience!
I liked that hotel pickup/drop off was offered. Our tour guide Anastasia was very knowledgeable and nice. She made sure that we were all in the group before she went any further. It wasn’t easy considering that Acropolis was very crowded. She gave clear instructions as to where to go for breaks and where to meet after our free time. It was a very pleasant experience to see the amazing Acropolis which housed the Parthenon, Temple of Athena, etc. We were a group of 8 and everyone agreed that it was well worth it. The city tour afterwards was a plus!
