Beautiful places and lunch super delicious. The grounds were beautiful, although I wish we could have stopped at lake.

Orvieto is not guided, however, leaving Rome on the bus is guided with a lot of information about history of Rome

Completely and Totally Abandoned

My spouse and I purchased an all-day bus excursion tour from Rome to Orvito and Assisi on May 14, 2026 through Viator and attended the excursion tour on May 30, 2026. Viator assigned the tour to be handled by Greenline Tours in Rome. There were 12 guests/customers on the tour including us. Around 6PM, as we were leaving the Assisi area about a two drive from Rome, the tour bus broke down and Viator and Greenline Tours COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY ABANDONED all 12 of us on the side of the road. Our guide, who was an independent contractor, contacted them many times over the next 4 hours trying to have us rescued but to no avail. We as a group were left to develop a plan as best we could on how to get back Rome. Only after the local police were involved were we as a group able to acquire 3 local taxis to transport us back to Rome at our personal expenses which came to 360 euros for each taxi with 4 people per taxi. There was a vague reference we would be reimbursed. So far, I haven't seen a penny, an apology, NOTHING. Oh, this nightmare didn't end there. This negligence on Viator and Greenline Tour created a cascade of potentially fatal events. During that two hour taxi ride back to Rome, our taxi driver was traveling over 160 kilometers through tunnels and curvy mountainous roads at night. A mortifying experience. Oh, this nightmare didn't end there. When the taxi finally dropped us off at the Roma Termini at midnight, the Metro was closed and it was the start of the Italian Labor Day holiday. So we had to wait in the cold for another 45 minutes for another taxi to take us to our Airbnb. Oh, this nightmare doesn't end there. This taxi driver drove like a maniac also and got nasty with us when we wanted to pay with a credit card. We finally made it to our Airbnb around 1:30AM. I’m 75 years old with Parkinson. All this unnecessary excess stress aggravated my condition. As a business owner who has created, owned and operated several corporations, here is my perspective on this situation. It seems apparent, Viator is not applying in-depth research and a due diligent screening process who they are contracting with these various tour companies. In this case, if they had, our guide would have placed one phone call and Greenline Tours would have had a standard operating procedure (SOP) on how to rescue their stranded guests/customers when one of their tour busses broke down. In addition, they would have paid for the replacement transportation up front. We as customers would certainly not have to pay for their negligence and then hope to be reimbursed. In conclusion, until Viator and Greenline Tours correct these glaring problems with their businesses and rights these wrongs, I will never trust them or do business with them. My advise, if you do decide to do business with them, make sure you have plenty of money in your pocket and a backup plan to rescue yourself, you just might need it. THEY HAVE NO BACKUP PLAN FOR YOU.

Orvieto and Assisi

Christina was fabulous. Her ability to switch from Italian to English and then Spanish was impressive. She was also a font of knowlege about Orvieto and Assisi. We were disappointed with the local guide in Assisi. She had loads of information but delivered it in a monotone. It didn't help that there was a spring celebration (it was fun to see lots of families dressed in costumes of the middle ages) and we had to keep rerouting. I don't know if we missed seeing some sites, but I felt very rushed at the end.
