Highly recommend!
This tour was amazing! As two 21-year-old females, we felt extremely safe the whole time which was really important to us. We were also very comfortable in the accommodation, ate well and were amazed at the variety of amazing things we experienced from animal sightings to phenomenal views of the scenery nearby.
Just what I needed!
Perfect way to visit Kruger from Johannesburg. Sekekama Tented Camp is great, quiet, clean, surrounded by nature, good facilities. The staff is super friendly. Excellent guides and drivers. Thank you all.
An amazing experience made even better by the staff
I booked this trip spontaneously only 5 days in advance so I had no idea what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised. Lavender (my company representative) was quick to respond to my enquiry and was able to book me a flight from Cape Town straight to the area even with the late notice. My flight was on a high quality airline and there was a driver waiting for me at the airport. At the camp I was met by Ian (the camp's manager) and his wife. I felt very welcomed and they even had lunch ready for me on arrival. I then went for a sunset safari in Moditlo private reserve. We were led by Terrence (driver) and Gift (tracker) who used their knowledge nad experience to give us the best experience they could. We were able to track down an Elephant, a Rhino and a pride of lionesses with their cubs!!! (Plus many more animals). They kept us entertained the whole time and when it got cold they brought out snacks and a blanket. We went back for dinner and an early night sleep. The food was always high quality, and always a freshly cooked traditional South African dish. The tents were spacious, with a plug socket, double and single bed, chest of drawers a fan and mirror. It was definitely a glamping experience and quite comfy to stay in. The only comment I'd have is they can get quite cold at night (I went in late autumn) but they provide extra blankets and it was quite manageable. The next day we spent in Kruger. We left at 5:30am and returned at 6:30pm so we definitely got the full experience. Our guide, Gustaf, was excellent at teaching us about the different animals, he had keen eyes and was able to spot a leopard from 100m away. He worked hard to give us the best experience, listening to our requests and finding us almost every animal you could possibly want. We completed the Big 5, saw Hyenas, hippos, crocodiles, jackals, zebras, giraffes and so much more. We all left that day tired but very satisfied. The day we did the panorama route was a more relaxing follow-up to the intense Kruger. It was very scenic and Eddie (our guide) was keen to give us a good experience, even adjusting the tour timetable to give us the clearest views. I would have liked to have done the sunrise safari on the last day but unfortunately it was full by the time I booked. However, it was still nice having a lie-in and a chance to enjoy the camp. Overall I had a great experience, the area is beautiful and the animals were amazing but the staff added to the experience to make it brilliant; Gustaf used all tools at his disposal to find us what he could, he was friendly and chatty and kept us entertained the whole day; Ian greeted us every evening around dinner, listening to (and addressing) any concerns and joining in with interesting conversation. It felt like a very friendly atmosphere and he always made sure we were looked after. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a more authentic experience of safari compared to the luxury version and the tour meant we saw so much more than we would've been able to manage otherwise. Also, as a solo traveller, I felt safe and supported throughout.
Very comfortable glamping
Accommodation was exactly as it was advertised. Bed was very comfortable. Staff was helpful and food was great
Fantastic Trip!
We had an excellent 4 day safari and stay at Sekekama Tented Lodge. It was great to have a mixture of private game drives (sunset and sunrise drives in Blue Canyon) and also full day safaris in Greater Kruger. We saw animals very close up during the sunset and sunrise drives and got to experience the size and variety of Kruger during the full-day drives. We saw all of the big 5. Our guide, Goodman, was excellent: knowledgeable, passionate, and patient. The camp is simple but effective. Food was delicious, bedrooms were cleaned daily, hot showers and WiFi. Staying at Sekekama Tented Lodge felt more like staying with friends. Izzy and Duan went above and beyond to make sure everyone was well looked after. When we had to change our departure time and tweak one of our activities at the last minute, Izzy handled it all effortlessly—nothing was too much trouble. It truly felt like five-star service, despite being on a more budget-friendly safari. Izzy and Duan joined us for dinner each evening, encouraging guests to socialise and creating a really warm, friendly atmosphere. They would often point out wildlife from the camp—so the safari experience never really stopped! We were even lucky enough to spot a hyena, and a porcupine right from the camp itself.
